Sallust

Sallust, Roman historian and politician
Gaius Sallustius Crispus (c. 86–35 BC), known as Sallust, was a Roman historian and politician from a plebeian Sabine family. A supporter of Julius Caesar, he later became governor of Africa Nova, where he amassed great wealth. Sallust is regarded as the first Roman historian with surviving works, including The Conspiracy of Catiline, The Jugurthine War, and the fragmentary Histories. Influenced by Thucydides, his writings shaped Roman historiography.
